Kalbarri Wilderness Cruises

Vessel on the riverbank

Welcome to Kalbarri Wilderness Cruises

Join skipper Grant and hostess for a fun and entertaining cruise along the lower reaches of the Murchison River in spectacular Kalbarri.

Cruises operate at 10am or 4pm (times vary in season) daily for 2.5 hours.
Departures are based on the timing of the high tide.
Weather patterns, pressure systems and the time of year all have an effect on the water levels in the Murchison.
By operating on the high tide, this ensures we have full access to the river and travel as far as any vessel can go, seeing all the great stuff!

What to Bring?

A hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, binoculars and a camera, we also recommend bringing a coat/jacket all year round
All passengers are welcome to bring their own snacks onboard.
A Toilet is located on the vessel for passenger convenience.
We have a licensed bar onboard with ice-cold beer, wine and champagne.
Sorry there is no BYO, however if we don’t stock something you like, just let us know when booking to prearrange for those special sundowners.

The Vessel

What happens on Tour?

Firstly we board the vessel, followed by a brief safety speech and introduction. Grant follows the channel up the river with full commentary along the way with the hostess serving complementary cuppas and biscuits. There is no rush and there’s a lot to see…Oh and cold drinks from our bar.

What might we see?

What might we see?

The lower reaches of the Murchison River are home to a number of species of birdlife including Ospreys, Kites, Pelicans, Egrets, Australian Shell Ducks, Black Swans and our local White Breasted Sea Eagles. As well as Emus, Kangaroos and Goats are often  seen. The river at times can be 40mm deep with mullet jumping, small fish and crabs. The Murchison is a very vital ecosystem and what we see on each cruise is always different.

The Crew

The Crew

Captain Grant has been successfully operating the Murchison River Princess for 5 years. He holds a Master 5 marine ticket and has spent most of his life working, fishing and surfing on the ocean.
Grant enjoys the company of people, loves a laugh and gets inspired about the history of the Kalbarri region, it’s wildlife and fishing industry - this makes for one of the most fun and informative tours in Kalbarri.
Our Hostess will tend to you with a smile and will even help you take photos.

Sunset Tours at times

Enjoy the trip, have a stretch!

At the turn around point at times there is time to pull up to the shore and take a stroll along the riverbank, then on the return journey plenty of time to relax, take photos and enjoy.
The cruise comes to and end at the Murchison River Mouth, one of WA’s most treacherous.
It’s impressive to watch the water move through the channel and boats come and go.

At certain times of the year, mainly during Summer, we move to Sunset Tours!
